Setting Up Known Spam E-mail Addresses (Blacklist)
To ensure that you do not receive e-mail from senders who are known spammers, you can add addresses to your blacklist. The blacklist contains e-mail addresses whose messages you do not want.
Depending your settings, Spam Shredder then either quarantines or deletes e-mail from that address. In essence, Spam Shredder knows those messages are spam and handles them for you automatically.
Note: You should add a sender to your blacklist only if you receive multiple messages from the same sender. If your blacklist becomes too long, it can slow e-mail performance.
You can add e-mail addresses to your blacklist in the following ways:
To add e-mail addresses to your blacklist:
- Start Spam Shredder, if it is not already running, and display the main window.
- For more information, see Starting Spam Shredder.
- In the icon panel, click Blacklist.
- For information about the Spam Shredder window, see Understanding the Spam Shredder Window.
- The Last Hit column shows the last time the blacklisted address sent you e-mail. The Hit Count column shows how many times the blacklisted address has sent you e-mail since you added it to your blacklist.
- Click Add E-mail Address.
- Enter the address you want to add to your blacklist.
- Enter the address in the format: login_name@domain_name (for example, tom@webroot.com).
- Click OK.
