Setting Up Known Spam E-mail Addresses (Blacklist)

To ensure that you do not receive e-mail from senders who are known spammers, you can add addresses to your blacklist. The blacklist contains e-mail addresses whose messages you do not want.

Depending your settings, Spam Shredder then either quarantines or deletes e-mail from that address. In essence, Spam Shredder knows those messages are spam and handles them for you automatically.

Note icon Note: You should add a sender to your blacklist only if you receive multiple messages from the same sender. If your blacklist becomes too long, it can slow e-mail performance.

You can add e-mail addresses to your blacklist in the following ways:

Step Introduction icon To add e-mail addresses to your blacklist:

  1. Start Spam Shredder, if it is not already running, and display the main window.
  2. In the icon panel, click Blacklist.
    • For information about the Spam Shredder window, see Understanding the Spam Shredder Window.
    • The Last Hit column shows the last time the blacklisted address sent you e-mail. The Hit Count column shows how many times the blacklisted address has sent you e-mail since you added it to your blacklist.
  3. Click Add E-mail Address.
    • The Edit E-mail Address window displays.
  4. Enter the address you want to add to your blacklist.
    • Enter the address in the format: login_name@domain_name (for example, tom@webroot.com).
  5. Click OK.
    • To edit an address, select it and click Edit E-mail Address. To delete an address from the blacklist, select it and click Delete E-mail Address.
