Click to see a description of each option.
Option Description Do Not Scan E-mail Larger Than ___ KB This tells Spam Shredder to ignore all e-mails that are larger than the size you set (including attachments). It sends all such messages to your inbox. This means that these e-mails will not be quarantined or listed in the delivery log. We recommend that you leave this option set to the default of 64 KB, to maintain performance and save hard drive space. Spam messages do not normally contain long text or attachments. Do Not Store E-mail Larger Than ___ KB in Delivery Log This tells Spam Shredder to ignore all e-mails that it sends to your inbox that are larger than the size you set (including attachments). This means that these e-mails will not be listed in the delivery log. We recommend that you leave this option set to the default of 64 KB, to maintain performance and save hard drive space. Spam messages do not normally contain long text or attachments. Automatically Delete Items in Quarantine More Than ___ Days Old This automatically deletes each quarantined e-mail after the number of days you specify. This ensures that quarantined e-mail does not continue to grow and take up a huge amount of space on your computer's hard drive. Automatically Delete Items in Delivery Log More Than ___ Days Old This automatically deletes each e-mail in the delivery log after the number of days you specify. This ensures that delivery log does not continue to grow and take up a huge amount of space on your computer's hard drive. Automatically Delete Blacklisted E-mail This automatically deletes e-mail from all addresses in your blacklist directly from the server, without downloading the e-mail. You will not see these messages at all. If you do not select this option, Spam Shredder quarantines blacklisted e-mail. Perform DNS Resolution This looks at the received header of each message and sends the IP address of the sending server to a database that maintains a list of open relay servers. If the message came from an open relay server, Spam Shredder categorizes the message as spam and either moves it quarantine or deletes it, depending on the option you select.Spammers use open relay servers to send spam. Other senders do not use these servers. Handle Suspected Spam: This tells Spam Shredder to store e-mail that it thinks is spam in quarantine. This lets you review the e-mail and decide whether to deliver the message, add the sender to your whitelist, or add the sender to your blacklist. For more information, see Managing Quarantined and Delivered E-mail. This tells Spam Shredder to permanently delete e-mail that it thinks is spam. This means that you will never see these e-mails at all. We do not recommend using this option until you have used Spam Shredder for a period of time and are confident that it is categorizing e-mail accurately.
