Increase Performance > Optimize Windows Startup

To access:

From the I want to pane, click Increase Performance and then click Optimize Windows Startup.

What it does:

The Optimize Windows Startup wizard eliminates startup items that are unnecessary.

Why use it:

Various programs and services are set to load when Windows loads. Some of these programs, such as antivirus protection, are desired, but many are useless.

 

Removing the unneeded startup items will boost your PC's speed, particularly the time it takes to boot, and will also eliminate potentially dangerous programs.

Instructions:

The wizard has several screens to guide you through the process. Click a screen name below for more information:

If you select the Automatic mode, the following screen displays:

Related tasks:

  • The Configure Windows Startup feature lists all the items currently configured to start when Windows loads. You can enable and disable items, view detailed file properties, create startup profiles, run reports, and more.

  • If you want System Mechanic to automatically remove unneeded startup items when detected, select the Automatically optimize startup configuration check box on the ActiveCare tab of the main Options window.
