Defragment Hard Drive

Operation Mode

Overview of Defragment Hard Drive wizard

On the first screen of the Defragment Hard Drive wizard, select a mode.

With the automatic modes, System Mechanic will defragment certain drives and use certain default settings. For the custom mode, you can specify which drives you want to defragment and specify advanced settings.

When you have made your selection, click Next. A progress window displays as System Mechanic examines your hard drive, and then the Defragment screen processes the defragmentation.

Automatic Modes

  • Quick Defragmentation. Defragments the system drive (the C: drive on most computers).

  • Deep Defragmentation. Defragments all drives.

If you are not sure which option you want, click Analyze. A progress window displays as System Mechanic examines your hard drives. When the analysis is completed, the recommended mode will display.

To configure options, click Options to open the Automatic Defragmentation Options window. This window allows you to set up an preemptive analysis (run analyses every time you open the wizard) and change basic settings for automatic defragmentation.

Custom Mode

The Custom Defragmentation option allows you to select which drives you want to defragment, set advanced options for the level of defragmentation, and view a graphic and other details about drive fragmentation.

Click Options to open the Advanced Defrag Options window that allows you to customize and view these settings.
