Problem Task List – Manage and Repair Detected Problems
To access:
![]()
See the Problem Task List pane on the left side of the Home page, below the system status information.
What it does:
The Problem Task List pane displays the problems detected in the last system analysis and allows you to run repairs.
Instructions:
From the Problem Task List, you can:
View the problems detected, decide which ones you want to fix, and then run the applicable repairs and optimizations.
Views problems that you have recently resolved.
You can also enable ActiveCare to perform automated housekeeping tasks.
Run analysis
If you haven't run an analysis yet, click Analyze to run a quick analysis. If you click the drop-down arrow on the button, you can choose to run either a quick or a deep analysis. (More on analyses.)
When the analysis completes, the Problem Task List displays any issues that need your attention.
View problems
The Problem Task List divides detected problems into two categories:
Critical problems. Critical problems are issues that are detrimental to your computer's performance, security, or stability. Resolving critical problems is strongly recommended.
Under each issue is a brief explanation of the problem and how a repair or optimization can help your computer.
Warnings. Warnings are issues that are not severe, but may be reducing your computer's performance, security, or stability. Resolving these items is recommended.
Under each issue is a brief explanation of the problem and how a repair or optimization can help your computer.
The Problems repaired recently section at the bottom of the Problem Task List shows the repairs and optimizations that have recently been done, along with the date and time of completion.
Make repairs and optimizations
Within the Critical problems and Warnings sections in the Problem Task List, you can designate which problems you want to fix, and then immediately run the required repairs and optimizations. You can also enable ActiveCare to perform repair and optimization tasks when detected.
Quick fixes
To quickly make repairs and optimizations, use the Repair selected problems button at the top of the pane.
Select the check box next to each problem you want to fix. If you want to fix all of the displayed problems, click the Select all link at the top of the pane.
Click Repair selected problems. System Mechanic automatically makes the necessary repairs and optimizations using default settings.
Note: By default, a confirmation
message displays prior to running the repair. You can turn off these messages
by selecting the "Do not show this prompt again" check box on
the message, or making changes on the Problem
Task List tab of the Options window.
Configure and fix individual problems
Click Repair to have System Mechanic repair the problem. If you click the drop-down arrow on the button, you can choose from the following options:
Repair this problem. System Mechanic automatically makes the necessary repairs or optimizations using default settings.
Note: By default, a confirmation
message displays prior to running the repair. You can turn off these messages
by selecting the "Do not show this prompt again" check box on
the message, or making changes on the Problem
Task List tab of the Options window.
Repair this problem manually. Opens the applicable tool that can perform the repairs or optimizations. Selecting this option allows you to configure settings to suit your preferences.
Hide this problem. Removes the problem from the Problem Task List. You can choose to hide the problem for one, three, or seven days, or choose to never have the problem be in the Problem Task List.
Notes on hidden problems:
Hidden problems are not included in System Mechanic's computations of system status.
You can have these items return to the Problem Task List on the Problem Task List tab of the Options window.
For some problems (such as not having an active antivirus program) a Repair button will not be available, but System Mechanic can still help you resolve the issue. Click the More info button to get more information on any problems that are not repairable by System Mechanic because they require actions by you.
Automate fixes when problem is detected
Underneath most problems is an "Automatically" link. Click the link if you want to have this problem automatically fixed when the problem is detected by ActiveCare.
The ActiveCare feature runs analyses and monitors your computer's performance, and then automatically runs desired repairs on-the-spot.
You control what automated tasks ActiveCare runs by clicking the "Automatically" links on the Problem Task List. (ActiveCare repairs and optimizations can also be designated on the ActiveCare tab of the Options window).
