Options Window

ActiveCare Tab

Overview of the Options window

The ActiveCare tab of the Options window allows you to designate which problems you want ActiveCare to fix.

ActiveCare monitors your computer's performance while your PC is idle. If during this analysis, a problem that you designated for automatic fixes is detected, ActiveCare will then automatically run the repair. (More on ActiveCare.)

Note: Problems can also be designated for automated ActiveCare repairs from the Problem Task List.

ActiveCare Configuration

Select the check box next to each type of repair you want ActiveCare to automatically fix when detected.

  • Automatically clean up excessive clutter. With regular usage, temporary files and other unneeded debris accumulate. It is recommended that excessive amounts of system clutter be deleted to reclaim disk space and speed overall processing.

  • Automatically repair spyware infections. Installed without your knowledge, spyware can reveal your Internet activity and waste system resources. Removing spyware protects your privacy and reclaims valuable memory.

  • Automatically repair invalid uninstallers. Uninstalling or deleting programs does not always completely remove the uninstallation files. Deleting invalid uninstallers streamlines the registry and increases overall PC stability.

  • Automatically repair registry problems. Over time, the Windows registry can become corrupt, leading to degraded performance and system crashes. Removing obsolete and invalid entries improves overall PC efficiency and stability.

  • Automatically optimize startup configuration. Various programs and services load when Windows starts. Eliminating startup items that are unneeded or potentially dangerous boosts overall PC speed and reclaims valuable memory.

  • Automatically repair hard drive errors. A damaged hard drive can prevent files from being accessed or saved and can cause system crashes. Repairing hard drive errors protects your data and improves overall PC stability.

  • Automatically repair security vulnerabilities. Viruses and other malicious programs exploit known security vulnerabilities in operating systems and Web browsers. Repairing security flaws protects your computer and your data.

  • Automatically repair unoptimized Internet configuration. The Optimize Internet Settings/Net Booster tool optimizes various settings to suit your type of Internet connection. Adapting these settings boosts Web download rates and improves overall Internet speed and stability.

  • Automatically repair drive fragmentation problems. When a drive becomes highly fragmented, files take longer to open and PC performance declines. Defragmenting reorganizes scattered data, which boosts file access speed and increases drive efficiency.

  • Automatically repair low memory problems. When available memory is too low, overall PC performance declines. Defragmenting reclaims valuable memory and improves PC efficiency, stability, and speed.

  • Automatically repair broken shortcuts. Broken shortcuts occur when the target files have been moved or deleted. Repairing these shortcuts speeds processing and eliminates unexpected errors.

  • Automatically back up registry every 14 days. The Windows registry is vital to your computer’s ability to run correctly. Backups allow you to restore the registry if it ever becomes damaged. It is recommended that you back up the registry every 14 days.

  • Automatically compact registry every 14 days. Compacting the Windows registry reorganizes entries, which improves the efficiency and speed of vital registry processing. It is recommended that you compact the registry every 14 days.
