Arrow Mailing List Server for Windows

Arrow makes it easy to create and manage both announcement mailing lists and interactive mailing list discussions on your Windows PC using a standard e-mail account. Arrows runs under most versions of Windows (including Windows 98, NT, 2000, ME, and XP), Arrow runs on your personal computer - you do not need a server or a continuous connection to the Internet - and works as an intelligent mailing list reflector. Arrow uses a standard e-mail account. It checks a "POP3" server to get messages and sends messages through your ISP's "SMTP" server. Setting up Arrow is not much more difficult than setting up a regular mail program.

Arrow automates most of the chores of maintaining your mailing list while giving you much more control than the "free" list services like YahooGroups. Arrow does not add advertising to your list's messages (unless you choose to add your own!). And you won't have to pay a mailing list service any monthly or annual fees.

Arrow Mailing List Server for Windows Main Features:
  • Arrow makes it easy to create and maintain interactive or read-only mailing lists. Arrow is powerful, yet easy to use.
  • Arrow allows you to run a "moderated" list where you review messages before posting them to the mailing list. Arrow can also run unattended to automatically process list messages.
  • Arrow features an Explorer-like interface for browsing lists, folders, and messages.
  • You can even create your own folders for storing and organizing messages.
  • Arrow's New List Wizard guides you through the process of creating a mailing list.
  • You can customize (and even add) commands to those recognized by Arrow.
  • Filters allow you to customize how Arrow processes incoming messages. [beta]
  • Arrow's list "Wizards" are ready to assist you. [beta]
  • Arrow's templates allow you to customize all messages sent by Arrow. Templates can include "tokens" which are replaced with information about the mailing list. For example, the %listname% token is replaced by the current mailing list's name and the %subscribers% token is replaced with the current number of subscribers to the list. Templates can also be used to create common replies for private messages.
  • Arrow's built-in scheduler allows you to automate Arrow. Arrow allows you to schedule many types of events including:
    • Automatically Process All Lists
    • Send a Note Based on a Template to a Specified Address
    • Do Nothing
    • Send a Digest to a Specified Address
    • Get New Messages for a List
    • Send a List's Outgoing Messages
    • Purge a List's Folders of Old Messages
  • Messages forwarded by Arrow and sent in digests can include MIME encoding and attachments.
  • Subscribers can choose to receive individual messages or digests. Digests are single messages containing a collection of all the messages posted to the list during the desired "digest period" specified by the subscriber.
  • Tag lines, headers, and/or footers can be added to posted messages. "Dated" tag lines can be specified which are used on specific days of the year.
  • Arrow graphically displays list statistics. [beta]
  • Some ISPs require that you check for new e-mail before you can send messages through their SMTP server. Therefore, Arrow will (optionally) check a specified POP3 account before trying to send mail.
  • ArrowMailer allows Arrow to send messages directly to each recipient's SMTP server - taking much of the burden off your ISP's mail server.
  • You can define aliases for subscriber's who post messages from multiple e-mail addresses.
  • Subscribers can search archived messages and receive a digest of matching messages.
  • Arrow allows multiple lists to use a single POP3 server. If you can forward messages to the POP3 server, Arrow will use the "to" address to route the incoming messages to the proper list.
  • Arrow uses a standard Internet mail protocols to read messages from your POP3 and to send them to your SMTP server.
  • Although Arrow is designed primarily for interactive mailing lists, you may create "Read-Only" or "Announcement" lists.
  • Optionally, confirmation may be required for subscription requests. When you require confirmation, Arrow responds to a Subscribe request by sending a confirmation message. Only after a reply to the confirmation message is received is the address added as a subscriber.
  • Arrow includes security features to help control problem subscribers.
  • A Subscriber can be marked as a "Twit" - messages from "twits" are immediately reflected back to the "twit" as if they were posted. Only after being reviewed by the list moderator, can the message be posted to the rest of the list subscribers.
  • Subscribers can be marked as "Banned" - messages from banned subscribers (including command messages) are ignored.
  • Arrow provides a "spam" utility to make it easy report abusive or inappropriate messages.
  • You can share your e-mail account with Arrow. Arrow can be configured to leave messages on the server until both your mail program and Arrow have read them.

    System Requirements:
Arrow requires Windows (98, NT, 2000, or XP), at least 64M of memory, and about 10M of disk space (disk space will vary depending on the size and number of messages you leave in Arrow's folders). You also must have an Internet connection and access to a POP3 account and SMTP server for Arrow's use.
