Step 1: Download the Android SDK for Mac OS

Step 2: Extract the zip file to any destination on your Mac.

Step 3: In the AndroidSDK folder, there will be a folder named 鈥渢ools鈥? We will be adding this folder to the path on Mac OSX.

Step 6: Next, type "touch .bash_profile" to create your new bash or otherwise known path file.

Step 7: Next, type "open -e .bash_profile" to open it in TextEdit. A TextEdit window will open, copy and past this into that window.

Step 8: Next, go to file and save your changes to the text file and close the TextEdit window.

Step 9: In the terminal window that is still open, type 鈥? .bashrc鈥?This command will save the changes once again you made to your .bash_profile file

Step 10: ADB should be set up! On your Droid X navigate to Settings > Applications > Development > and make sure USB debugging is checked. To test if ADB works, connect your Droid X to your Mac via micro-USB cable and set it to charging only mode in the notification bar.

Step 11: Open up terminal on your Mac and type in 鈥渁db devices鈥?once again do not type the quotations. Your phone should be listed as a number below.

If you鈥檙e on Windows XP, follow the steps below

  • Step 1. Connect your Android-powered device to your computer's USB port. Windows will detect the device and launch the Hardware Update Wizard.

  • Step 2.Select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.

  • Step 3.Select Search for the best driver in these locations; un-check Search removable media; and check Include this location in the search.

  • Step 4.Click Browse and locate the USB driver folder. (The Google USB Driver is located in \extras\google\usb_driver\.)

  • Step 5. Click Next to install the driver.


If you鈥檙e on Windows 7, follow the steps below

  • Step 1.Connect your Android-powered device to your computer's USB port.

  • Step 2.Right-click on Computer from your desktop or Windows Explorer, and select Manage.

  • Step 3. Select Devices in the left pane.

  • Step 4.Locate and expand Other device in the right pane.

  • Step 5.Right-click the device name (such as Nexus S) and select Update Driver Software. This will launch the Hardware Update Wizard.

  • Step 6.Select Browse my computer for driver software and click Next.

  • Step 7.Click Browse and locate the USB driver folder. (The Google USB Driver is located in \extras\google\usb_driver\.)

  • Step 8.Click Next to install the driver.


If you鈥檙e on Windows Vista, follow the steps below

  • Step 1.Connect your Android-powered device to your computer's USB port. Windows will detect the device and launch the Found New Hardware wizard.

  • Step 2.Select Locate and install driver software.

  • Step 3.Select Don't search online.

  • Step 4.Select I don't have the disk. Show me other options.

  • Step 5.Select Browse my computer for driver software.

  • Step 6.Click Browse and locate the USB driver folder. (The Google USB Driver is located in \extras\google\usb_driver\.) As long as you specified the exact location of the installation package, you may leave Include subfolders checked or unchecked鈥攊t doesn't matter.

  • Step 7.Click Next. Vista may prompt you to confirm the privilege elevation required for driver installation. Confirm it.

  • Step 8.When Vista asks if you'd like to install the Google ADB Interface device, click Install to install the driver.


Step 14: The drivers should now be fully installed.

Step 1: Download the SDK zip file with everything needed at the following link: Android ADB SDK

Step 2: Navigate to where the zip file download. You should see a file called SDK.zip (or it may just say SDK depending on how you have Windows set up). Right click on this file, select "Open With", then select "Windows Explorer"

STEP 5: Navigate to your C: drive. You should see the SDK folder there. Open up this SDK folder and look for the EnvSET file. Double click on this to complete the installation

STEP 6: Now we can test things out to see if everything went well. Open up the command prompt and type in adb devices.

If I had a phone connected, you would see it listed there. If you get a message like the above example, then you're done! If you get a message saying 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. try rebooting your computer.

Step 1. Download the Latest Android SDK from Google



Step 2. Once downloaded, double click the exe file to open it. (MAKE SURE you change the directory that it is installing everything to to c:\android-sdk\)

Step 3. Click on the SDK Manager and it will ask you to install packages. Select the following and leave all others unchecked:

Android SDK Platform Tools

Google USB Driver Package, Revision XX (XX being the highest number available)

Step 4. Then click continue and follow the on screen prompts until all of the packages are installed and it finishes.

Step 5a. On your phone, click Settings > Applications > Development and make sure USB Debugging is on.

Step 5b. If using Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), click on Settings > Developer Options and make sure USB Debugging is on.

Step 6. Plug your phone into your computer via USB cable (it needs to be on). It should say installing drivers if using Windows.

Step 7. Open Windows File Explorer and look for the android-sdk folder inside of the C drive. Then open the platform-tools folder inside that. Now, hold the shift key down on your keyboard and right click in any blank area inside that folder. This will give you the option to open a command window here. Select that and a command prompt will open saying c:\android-sdk\platform-tools\ *if using windows XP, this won鈥檛 work. So instead open command prompt first by going to Start > Run > then typing in cmd and hitting enter. Then type cd c:\android-sdk\platform-tools\ and hit enter, then continue.

Step 8. Type the following into the command prompt window (hitting enter at the end of every line):

adb devices

You should see a serial number pop up, it鈥檚 the serial number of your phone. This means you are all set!

Step 1: Install the Android SDK and download the USB drivers into a folder inside your SDK as Google tells you to do.

  • %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C9E&MI_01

Step 5: On your Incredible, go to Settings->Applications->Development and turn on USB debugging. NOW, you can connect your phone to the PC. On your PC, Go to Start->Right-Click My Computer->Manage

Step 6: You should see a device with a warning on it called Other->ADB. Right-click it and choose Update Driver Software鈥?Install the drivers manually and point that to your usb_drivers folder. Ignore any warnings about unsigned drivers and everything should install just fine. After installation, I see Android Phone->Android Composite ADB Interface in the Device Manager.

Step 7: After that, I went to the cmd prompt and typed

  • >adb devices
  • * daemon not running. starting it now *
  • * daemon started successfully *
  • List of devices attached

Step 1: Before you can install ADB drivers, you need to put your HTC Evo 4G into "recovery" mode, otherwise your computer won't recognize your phone as an "ADB" device, which we want.
