This is a bugfix release. VLC media player 0.8.6g (a source code release) and earlier versions suffer from security vulnerabilities in the GnuTLS, libgcrypt and libxml2 libraries.
VLC media player 0.8.6f and earlier versions suffer from security vulnerabilities in the Mozilla and ActiveX plugins, in the libpng, libid3tag, libvorbis libraries and in the Speex codec.

Installing VLC
Windows: VLC works under Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP. Download the self-extracting package. Launch the .exe to install VLC.
Mac OS X: Download the Mac OS X package. Double-click on the icon of the package : an icon will appear on your Desktop, right beside your drive(s). Open it and drag the VLC application from the resulting window to the place where you want to install it (it should be /Applications).
BeOS: Download the Zip file. Unzip the file in a directory to install VLC.
